What was once a cottage in a hillside neighborhood overlooking Carnegie Mellon University became a full-fledged house over many generations of additions.
Unfortunately, some parts were not built with a proper footing, and due to a steeply sloped and eroding site, had begun to pull away from the house.
After stabilizing the hillside, we removed the failing portions of the house and reconceived the side addition as a cantilevered floor that requires no footings.
When complete, the home will not only be structurally sound, but the main living space will capture panoramic views of CMU and beyond.
